Saluggia EUREX plant hosts about 270 cubic metres of liquid radioactive waste, among which there are 125 cubic metres of high-activity waste
The pool of Saluggia EUREX plant hosted the fuel elements to be sent abroad for reprocessing campaigns.
In the period 2008-2010, a New Water Supply System (NSAI) was implemented in Saluggia.
Works for the implementation of the interim storage facility D2 started in 2011
The new sub-station for the transformation and supply of electricity to Saluggia plant, was created between 2012 and 2015, to supply the plants ...
The two twin ponds (Waste Pond 718 and 719) are active in the site since 1970, each one has a capacity of 1,000 cubic metres...
270 cubic metres of liquid radioactive waste are now located in the Saluggia plant; they mainly result from the fuel elements reprocessing campaigns held in the 70s and 80s
Saluggia EUREX plant hosts 105 tonnes of radioactive solid waste resulted from decommissioning activities of the IFEC ....
Saluggia EUREX Plant hosts an underground tank containing 15 cubic metres of low-level radioactive organic liquid waste resulted from previous site operations
A Waste Management Facility (WMF) is a plant for the treatment and conditioning of radioactive waste resulting from previous site operations and decommissioning procedures....
Removing nuclear materials and irradiated fuel is essential for the release of the sites without radiological risks. Thanks to the GTRI program (Global Threat Reduction Initiative) nuclear materials of non-Italian origin have been removed. Radioactive waste is safely managed and stored in temporary repositories on the site.
To ensure environmental sustainability, all interventions are designed, implemented and monitored so as not to produce any impact, neither radiological nor conventional, on the environment.
EUREX (Enriched URanium Extraction) plant was built in 1965. The facility was made operational in 1970 and performed reprocessing activities for irradiated fuels. The plant operation period lasted until 1984. Since then, the safe maintenance of plants and structures has been implemented to protect people and environment. At the end of 2014, a request for the deactivation of the plant was submitted under art.55 of the Legislative Decree n. 230/95.
