Saluggia EUREX plant houses 105 tonnes of radioactive solid waste resulted from decommissioning activities of the IFEC plant (Fuel Elements Manufacturing Plant).
In 2012, Sogin has initiated treatment and conditioning operations for approx. 70 tonnes of waste, which have been immobilised in a cementitious matrix, packed in overpacks and stored in the temporary repositories of the site.
Subsequently, the decontamination and cutting of the remaining 35 tonnes of the so called “anomalous” IFEC waste were carried out. This waste is defined “anomalous” for its size and radiological level.
The conditioning activity of anomalous IFEC waste will be completed in 2022.
