New waste storage tank facility (NPS)

Status: Completed
Period: 2004-2006

Saluggia EUREX plant houses about 270 cubic metres of liquid radioactive waste, among which there are 125 cubic metres of high-activity waste.

Between 2008 and 2009, this waste was transferred to the New Waste Storage Tank Facility (NPS), a structure built between 2004 and 2006 to ensure the safe storage of this kind of substances.

The engineering and structure features of the NPS reflect the best international standards, including earthquake resistance.

The New Waste Storage Tank Facility consists of a storage building with service and control rooms, and it was adapted to allow the transfer of stored liquid effluents to the conditioning CEMEX plant, which will be subsequently created in a close area.
