The pool of Saluggia EUREX plant housed the fuel elements to be sent abroad for reprocessing campaigns.
In 2004, after discovering the partial loss of containment of the pool, Sogin decided to initiate emptying and reclamation activities.
An environmental analysis performed by competent authorities, showed that the loss had no impacts on people and environment.
The works, completed in 2008, were divided in different stages: removal of the components in the pool, removal of irradiated fuel in special tanks, cleaning of the bottom of the pool, pool emptying and water decontamination.
