Demolition of the emergency diesel building

Status: completed
Period: 2003-2009

The Diesel Emergency Building housed electric generators to be used to ensure constant functioning of the plant’s security systems in the event of an interruption of external power supply. After the removal of approx. 325 tonnes of iron and copper, the building was demolished. This activity is one of the first steps implemented by Sogin to achieve the final release of the site. The complexity of the operations resulted from the great amount of reinforced concrete which is characterised by a reduced handling capacity.
