Demolition of cooling towers

Status: completed
Period: 2002-2003

During the plant operation period, the wet cooling towers served for cooling the water of the output secondary circuit.

Electro-mechanical components of the structures were dismantled; the process involved the removal of approx. 160 tonnes of iron materials, 61 tonnes of plastic and 40 tonnes of cables. During dismantling operations, approx. 2,200 cubic metres of concrete were demolished; the resulting materials and additional 2,500 cubic metres of soil were used to fill the demolition pit of the towers.

The complexity of the operations resulted from the great amount of reinforced concrete with a reduced handling capacity.
