ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Assessments
Any sustainability journey undertaken in an organisation requires the involvement of its supply chain. For this reason, with the introduction of the new procurement code pursuant to Italian Legislative Decree 36/2023, Sogin has implemented a supply chain sustainability strategy, aimed at developing a shared growth path with its suppliers and integrating this into the Company's business model.
As of 2024, ESG assessment criteria have been further implemented, identified and introduced in the award procedures. Firstly, the parameters making up the technical score during the tender phase were included in the procedures with the award criterion for the most economically advantageous bid. The parameters introduced are:
- letter of attribution of the Legality Rating issued by the Competition and Market Authority or possession of ISO 37001 certification;
- certification of gender equality pursuant to Article 46-bis of the Code of Equal Opportunities for Men and Women, Italian Legislative Decree No. 198 of 11 April 2006, issued by accredited certification bodies operating on the basis of UNI/PdR 125;
- outcome of the ESG self-assessment issued by the platform made available by Sogin.
The process is periodically analysed and verified to evaluate the results, make any operational changes and introduce new implementations. In addition, all economic operators and all tender procedures are required to have documentation for:
- equal generational opportunities, job inclusion for disabled or disadvantaged people;
- SA8000 certification on corporate social responsibility;
- accident index calculated by INAIL or ISO 45001 certification;
- ISO 14001 on environmental management systems;
- Carbon Footprint, certification on the economic operator’s "climate footprint";
- "B-Corp" for social, environmental, transparency and accountability certification.
Finally, Sogin pays close attention to protecting the workforce employed in the contracts awarded. Specifically, in line with the provisions of the new Procurement Code, Sogin requires economic operators to firstly prove equal protection is provided by the national collective bargaining agreement applied to the contract, and ultimately, a guarantee that the cost of staff is not less than the minimum wage and salary specified in the appropriate Ministerial tables.
