As shown in the table, 1800 tons (30%) out of a total of about 6000 tons of materials – mainly consisting of concrete and metal components - resulting from the dismantling of Casaccia Plants will be recovered.

Moreover, as for other sites under decommissioning, the adaptation interventions carried out on Casaccia structures and plants allowed to reuse existing buildings for decommissioning and radioactive waste management purposes, thus avoiding the construction of new buildings, in line with the principles of circular economy.

For example, OPEC-2, the temporary repository for the storage of radioactive waste, was recovered from a pre-existing premise which had to be used to extend the “hot cells” of the plant.
