Sogin participates in the Topical Workshops on Modern Aspects of Nuclear Structure

12 February 2025
The biennial "Topical Workshops on Modern Aspects of Nuclear Structure" were held from 3 to 8 February in Bormio, organised by the University of Milan and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN).

Numerous experts and researchers from the international scientific community attended the seminar, providing them with the opportunity to present and discuss the latest research on aspects relating to the nuclear structure and other associated technical-scientific topics.

Miriam Lombardo, Sogin Area Manager for Localization, Environmental Assessments and Monitoring of the National Repository and Technology Park Directorate, made a presentation for Sogin entitled "Italian Radioactive Waste Management: siting of a near surface disposal facility and site characterisation".

Her presentation provided a timely illustration of the site selection process, including the criteria for identifying areas suited to host a surface disposal facility for radioactive waste, and the surveys needed to define the geological, hydrogeological, chemical-physical and natural characteristics of the sites. The presentation was very well received by the scientific community attending, which showed great interest in the different issues relating to our activities.

During the entire event, Sogin also hosted an information space dedicated to the National Repository and Technology Park, providing an opportunity to illustrate the project and answer the many questions posed by participants.
