29 March 2024

The conference "Nuclear power in Italy in the energy transition: sustainability and independence”, organised by the National Chemical Federation Trade Union, was held yesterday, Thursday 28 March in Rome, at the Nassiriya hall at the Senate.

The event opened with the presentation by the Hon. Vannia Gava, Deputy Minister of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE), extending over a number of important issues in the field of the energy transition, from the prospects for the economy and energy policy to the repercussions on the world of work and employment, from radioactive waste management to training and public opinion information.

The round table was attended by the CEO of Sogin, Gian Luca Artizzu, together with representatives from national and European institutions, the world of universities and research and other players in the sector.

On the sidelines of the conference, in an interview by several newspapers, the CEO stressed that "it is necessary for us as Sogin, as a government, to make a greater effort in communication, in dialogue with the territories. For the first time with the National Repository, we have started a public debate in Italy on issues relating to major infrastructure. It is very important to continue with this because, even though there is currently considerable opposition to the work, we realise that something is changing and is changing especially on the part of young people. "

Artizzu also recalled that Open Gate, will be held in May, the initiative during which the Company will be opening the doors of the decommissioned facilities to the public, which is already "sold out" at several sites. This shows that "there is a real thirst for knowledge on everything relating to nuclear, because it should be clear that everything that has been said so far is not true or, at least, is only partially true. We need to understand which part this is. We therefore need to make a greater effort at communication, a greater effort at literacy on nuclear".
