Sogin at the 77th meeting of the OECD-NEA Technical Advisor Group in Avignon

Sogin attended the 77th meeting of the OECD-NEA Technical Advisor Group (TAG), held in Avignon, France, from 19 to 23 May. This bi-annual meeting brought together international experts to discuss and share experiences regarding the decommissioning of nuclear plants, with the aim of drawing lessons from the successes and challenges faced.
A particularly important topic discussed during the meeting was the controlled demolition of contaminated structures built in cement material. Participants had the opportunity to review best practices and the operational strategies adopted to ensure a safe and efficient approach to carrying out this work. The event also included a technical visit to the Marcoule site facilities and research centre, providing a valuable opportunity to directly observe innovations in the field of decommissioning.
During the meeting, Sogin representative, Gianluigi Migliore, presented a detailed update on the state of Italian decommissioning, focusing specifically on the Rotondella (Matera) site. At the end of his presentation, he announced that Sogin will be hosting the next TAG Meeting in Italy. The meeting will take place next October in Caserta and will include a technical visit to the Garigliano nuclear power plant, marking an important opportunity for discussion and visibility for Italian experience in the sector.
