The course has taken on a particularly relevant significance in a context where nuclear energy is increasingly being recognised as one of the key solutions for achieving the decarbonisation objectives of the European Green Deal by 2050 and for national energy security. This is also because of the bill approved on 28 February by the Council of Ministers, which delegates the Government to adopt regulatory measures to regulate the production of sustainable nuclear energy in Italy.

On the first day, after the opening by
Francesco Mancini, as AIRP President,
Francesco d’Errico and
Raffaele Zagarella respectively Director and Scientific Secretary of the School, the Sogin President,
Carlo Massagli, also made a presentation. His contribution focused on the role of nuclear power in the broader context of the climate and energy transition, reconstructing what is happening, the implications of nuclear power in the field of safety and highlighting the importance of a systemic approach in the future.

On the other two days, the speakers included Sogin colleagues,
Annafrancesca Mariani, Director of National Repository and Technology Park,
Francesco Mancini, Radiation Protection Area Manager, and
Marco Sabatini Scalmati, Press Office Manager. The event focused on the different technical solutions being studied and developed, on aspects of nuclear safety and radiation protection, on the relationship between nuclear and the press and on the technical and regulatory updating of nuclear power in Italy.

Participation in the "Carlo Polvani" Course – which in 2024 was hosted at the Sogin headquarters – confirms the Company's commitment to promoting a culture of radiation safety and sharing good practices, through dialogue with institutions, research bodies and operators in the sector.
