27 May 2024
The IV edition of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
International Conference on Nuclear Safety (ICONS) 2024 was held from 20 to 24 May in Vienna, entitled "Shaping the Future".

The Conference represents a key event for global nuclear safety. Among the institutional representatives involved were ministers, politicians, senior officials and also nuclear safety experts who, through an exchange of information and sharing of best practices, are committed to promoting international cooperation in the field. Sogin was in attendance with its own delegation, also in support of the Italian Permanent Representation.
During the event, numerous issues were addressed, including the safety of nuclear facilities, also in the contexts of armed conflict, Artificial Intelligence and its implications for nuclear safety, the development of next-generation reactors (Small Modular Reactor – SMR, Advanced Modular Reactor – AMR, Micro Modular Reactor – MMR) and gender equality in nuclear security.
For Sogin, participation in the Conference represented an important refresher on nuclear security in a global context characterised by the energy transition and development of new nuclear technologies.
