Sogin at the 2023 Airp National Conference

This year Sogin once again participated in the National Congress of the
Italian Association of Radiation Protection (AIRP) which took place in Cagliari from 27 to 29 September 2023.
The work programme, introduced by AIRP President Francesco Mancini, was divided into six different technical and scientific working sessions that included reports, talks and posters. The Young People's Award, reserved for under 40s, was once again held this year, awarding an original work on radiation protection.
The main aspects of radiation protection were covered, from radiation in health care to environmental radioactivity, from characterisation techniques through to monitoring and decommissioning of nuclear power plants and quality in measurements.
Sogin took part in Session 1 "Emergencies and Nuclear Installations", chaired by Francesco Mancini, Head of the Radiation Protection Area and President of AIRP, and Mauro Magnoni as well as Session 5 "Radiation Protection", chaired by Vittorio Festa and Gianluigi Migliore.
In particular, our colleagues presented the following speeches:
- The InnoForGraph Project for the decommissioning of the Latina power plant reactor (Gianluigi Migliore)
- Optimisation in nuclear emergencies: reference levels, generic criteria and operational criteria (Francesco Mancini)
- Radiological characterisation of the soils beneath the underground radioactive effluent collection system "Waste B" at the OPEC-1 site (Silvia Iezzi)
- Criteria for defining the removal of liquids from a nuclear power plant (Marco Fumagalli)
- Long-term safety analysis for a near-surface repository for radioactive waste disposal (Giorgio Mingrone)
On 28 September, a Round Table was held on the topic of "The optimisation of radiation protection in light of the new legislation", moderated by Sveva Grande and Gian Marco Contessa, members of the AIRP Board of Directors, with the participation of Carlo Cavedon (AIFM president), Roberto Moccaldi (AIRM president), Samantha Cornacchia (ANPEQ administrator), Adelaide Raulo and Eleonora Palizzi (ISIN) , Angela Coniglio (Italian Ministry of Health) and Francesco Mancini (AIRP president).
