On Thursday, 30 May, about 120 students from high schools in the area of Sessa Aurunca (CE) participated in the "A more STEM future" initiative, organised by Sogin and the Municipality of Sessa Aurunca with the common goal of bringing the new generations closer to studies and professions in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, encouraging them to overcome the gender stereotypes in this sector.

The event, held at the Cinema Corso, was introduced by the President of the Council Board for the Environment, Carmen Boccino, and by the Councillor for Social Services, Equal Opportunities, New Employment, Sabrina Izzo, who conveyed the greetings from the Councillor for Public Education and Youth Policies, Simona Pollano. Sogin’s Belinda Sepe, Director of Administration, Resources, Systems and ICT, spoke about the Company's commitment and encouraged dialogue and discussion among young people on the subject. At the close, there was time dedicated to the sharing of experiences from two Sogin Role Models, Marianna Ledda, Head of Quality, Environment and Safety, and Marta Atzori, Laboratory Coordinator, both from the Garigliano power plant.
A presentation during the morning by Valeria Leva, Head of Social Innovation Inspiring Girls&Wanter, from Valore D introduced the first business association in Italy that since 2009 promotes gender balance and an inclusive culture in organisations and in the country – Wanter, the free platform for professional guidance where girls and boys can browse through the most sought-after jobs in coming years, learn about the skills required and the study paths they need to follow to carry these out and discover those that more closely match up their talents, passions and aspirations.
The day ended with greetings and thanks from the Mayor of Sessa Aurunca, Lorenzo di Iorio, who expressed his appreciation for the dialogue and active collaboration established between Sogin and the Municipal Administration.
For Sogin, the initiative is part of a social sustainability project, launched a few years ago, which involves organising meetings between middle and high school students with their STEM Role Models, namely, examples of female professionals that bring their experience to instil the inspiration, motivation and example that young girls need to best realise their potential and, more generally, encourage them to follow this study path.
The event is also part of the events carried out by Sogin
to celebrate the European Month of Diversity, which this year, is dedicated to the future of work.
