06 November 2024

This morning Sogin and the Emilia-Romagna Region signed the Programme Agreement to implement interventions in terms of the “Po Valley Media River Contract”.

The Agreement signed today complies with the provisions of Article 24, paragraph 4 of Italian Decree-Law no. 1/2012, which allows the Regions where the nuclear sites under decommissioning phase are located, to promote agreements between Sogin and the local administrations concerned, aimed at identifying compensation and environmental balancing measures.

The Po Valley Media River Contract involves a total of 34 municipalities and aims to protect and enhance the proper management of water resources made available by the longest river in Italy, along which the Sogin nuclear power plant in Caorso (Piacenza) is located, and currently undergoing decommissioning.

"Today's signing is an important step in the process where attention focuses on the territories where Sogin is present – commented Gian Luca Artizzu, CEO of Sogin. Confirmation of the Company's commitment to supporting the social, economic and industrial development of the areas where it operates, with the aim of promoting the construction of a cleaner, safer and more sustainable world ".

This Agreement must be followed by an Implementation Protocol, agreed with all the Institutions involved, to regulate the areas of intervention, their respective tasks and the amount needed to implement the measures that will be decided.
