SERR 2020: the webinar of the Sogin Group on innovation and sustainable waste management

25 November 2020

The webinar Innovation for sustainable waste management, promoted by Sogin Group during the 2020 European Week for Waste Reduction – EWWR, concerning Invisible Waste, was held today.

The webinar focused on the innovations related to sustainable waste management, one of the most relevant factors of circular economy as it allows exploring new solutions for sustainable development. The webinar mostly revolved around the role of innovation - among Italian start-ups and SMEs – in managing and mitigating the “burden” of waste. When it comes to invisible, odourless, and tasteless radioactive waste, talking about burden means talking about volume.

Many speakers joined this event. Among them: Eleonora Faina, General Director of Anitec-Assiform of Confindustria, who presented the policies and measures related to the digitalization of our Country; Francesco Lamaro, Infoedge Technology Project Manager, who discussed technology solutions available for waste management, and, more specifically, analysed decentralized systems and the blockchain; Marco Farina, Project Manager for the evaluation and development of A2A Ambiente projects, who shared his company’s experience in the field of waste management.

The Sogin’s staff involved in the webinar included Flaviano Bruno, Head of Radwaste Management and nuclear materials, who explained Sogin’s radioactive waste management strategies and presented the AIGOR software (IT Radioactive Objects Management System), and Federica Pancotti, Head of the Technology Innovation department, who analysed the technologies adopted for the management of radioactive waste abroad and the Group’s contribution to sector EU programmes.

Sogin’s CEO and Professor at the Energy Faculty of Politecnico di Milano and MINES ParisTech, Enrico Zio, ended the webinar with institutional greetings.

For the third year in a row, this initiative confirms Sogin’s role as Action Developer of the 12th European environmental communication campaign (EWWR).
