Roundtable 20 October 2025 – The Italian nuclear sector and the IAEA

Today in Rome, at the side of the opening of the ‘Pilot Nuclear Decommissioning Management School’, organized by Radwaste Management School (RaMS), in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Sogin organized a meeting between Olena Mykolaichuk, Director of the IAEA Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology Division, and the representatives of some of the major institutions and enterprises potentially involved in the possible return to nuclear power of Italy.

Among the contributors: Marcello Cavalcaselle, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nicola Ippolito from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, Francesco Campanella, Director of the National Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection, Gian Luca Artizzu, CEO of Sogin e Luca Mastrantonio, CEO of Nuclitalia.



The themes discussed embraced the possibility of a return to nuclear power considering the delegation law recently approved by the Council of Ministers, the possible future roles of the Italian organizations and companies and the necessity of involving all relevant stakeholders in the development of the sector.

This meeting confirms Sogin’s central role in the dialogue among Italian and international entities in supporting the programme for returning to electricity production from nuclear sources.
