Open Gate 2024, record number of visits to decommissioned Italian nuclear power facilities

Over 5,000 visitors: 3,354 participants and 1,744 on the waiting list  

Registration to participate in the fourth edition of Open Gate, the event when Sogin opens up its decommissioned nuclear power plants in Trino (VC), Caorso (PC), Latina and Garigliano (CE) and for the first time, the Itrec plant in Rotondella (MT) to the public, closed with a record number of registrations for the coming weekend on 11 and 12 May.

Open Gate 2024 registers a total of over 5,000 subscriptions: 3,354 expected participants and 1,744 subscribers to a specific mailing list to be informed about upcoming similar initiatives.

The event takes place under the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and will be a plastic-free event, confirming Sogin's commitment to achieving the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.

Sogin is ready to welcome visitors to the fourth edition of OpenGate with two routes open to visitors: the "controlled area" and "industrial area” at the power plants in Trino, Caorso, Garigliano and Itrec plant in Rotondella, whereas only the "industrial area” route will be available in Latina. On the tours, Sogin technicians will talk about the places that represent a piece of our country's industrial history and discuss the work they do on a daily basis, in compliance with the maximum safety criteria, to finish the dismantling of nuclear facilities and manage radioactive waste, from its storage in temporary repositories to its final storage at the National Repository.
