Maintenance of the return channel of the Latina power plant begins

08 August 2023

Today, Sogin begins routine maintenance work on the Latina nuclear power plant's return channel used to release liquid effluents from the site into the sea.

The operations, which aim to clear the channel bed of accumulated sand and marine sediment, will be carried out by the personnel of the subsidiary Nucleco in three phases.

In the first phase, barriers will be placed to isolate the canal bed and allow it to drain temporarily.

Sediments and materials on the bottom of the canal will then be removed and safely disposed of according to their characteristics.

Once the sediment collection is complete, the interception barriers will be removed and the canal will once again be connected with the sea.

The work will be completed in September and will not interfere in any way with the surrounding area or with ongoing activities at the site, restoring full functionality to the plant's water-sea circulation system.
