"Let's start from our heritage": the contribution of CEO Artizzu to Pagine Libere
04 July 2025
The latest issue of the periodical
“Pagine Libere",[“Free Pages”], entirely dedicated to the theme of energy, includes a contribution from the CEO of Sogin,
Gian Luca Artizzu.
The article entitled
"Let's start from our heritage", written with technical precision and strategic vision, addresses some of the main challenges characterising the national and international energy landscape, with particular reference to the role of decommissioning and the enhancement of nuclear assets in the context of the energy transition.
Among the main topics discussed:
- Decommissioning as strategic leverage: not only the final phase of the nuclear cycle, but also activities with high technological and industrial added value, capable of generating skills, innovation and qualified employment.
- Nuclear sites as state assets: the infrastructure managed by Sogin represents a public heritage to be enhanced. Their characteristics can make them multifunctional energy hubs, where – as is already the case in other countries – plants undergoing dismantling, operational reactors and new technologies under development can all coexist.
- A balanced energy mix: the contribution of nuclear, as a stable and programmable source, is essential to ensure security and continuity in the energy supply. Renewable sources, although fundamental, require complex support systems to cover the base load. It is therefore necessary to allocate resources in a manner consistent with the characteristics of the different sources and usage contexts.
- Overcoming ideological barriers: to face the challenges of the energy transition, it is essential to adopt a rational and responsible approach, which takes into account the needs of the industrial system, national energy security and the value of existing infrastructure.
IThe contribution of
CEO Artizzu represents an invitation to restore pragmatism and a systemic vision in public choices, at a time that is crucial for the country's energy future.
The special issue of
“Pagine Libere" was presented in Rome during the event "Green Economy: what future?", part of the series of
"Future Economy 2025" conferences promoted by UGL. The meeting was attended by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
