Latina and Saluggia: visiting days for local schools
05 March 2024
On Wednesday 28 February and Monday 4 March, Sogin welcomed a total of 97 students that visited the sites in Latina and Saluggia (Vercelli). The aim was to introduce the younger generations to the operations carried out by the Company in their territories. Specifically, on 28 February, the Latina power plant opened its doors to 24 students from the G. Galilei Scientific High School in Pescara.
The young guests had the chance to learn about the history and work of Sogin and the main decommissioning operations that had been carried out and were ongoing at the Pontine facility through a classroom presentation and a guided tour of the site. The students specifically visited the power plant’s reactor building and the control room of the Cirene plant, which had never become operational.
Also on 28 February and, subsequently, on 4 March, 38 students from the G. Ferraris secondary school in Livorno Ferraris and 35 students from the L.C. secondary school visited the Eurex facility in Saluggia. Farini di Saluggia. Both days were an opportunity to talk to the young visitors about Sogin’s role and the main activities carried out and underway for the dismantling of the Vercelli plant. After a classroom presentation, the students were accompanied by Sogin technicians inside the different areas at the site, including the environmental laboratories, the "mock up" facility created for the dismantling of the Glove Boxes and the temporary repository control room for the temporary storage of radioactive waste.
This event provided Sogin with a further opportunity to share and dialogue with the territory, while also contributing to achieving one of the goals of the 2030 Agenda: SDG4 – Provide quality, equitable and inclusive education and learning opportunities for all.
