Deadline for registration to the National Seminar extended to 30/09/2021

10 September 2021

The postponement applies to all parties invited to participate in the National Seminar.

The decision confirms the Company's commitment to reach a shared decision on the location of the National Repository.

Given many requests received, Sogin has extended to 30 September the deadline by which all those invited by letter sent on 10 August 2021 can register to take part in the work of the National Seminar, launched on 7 September.

Sogin intends to favour the possibility of joining the National Seminar by all those who are qualified to participate based on what is indicated in Art. 27 paragraph 4 of Legislative Decree no. 31/2010, as well as those who took part in the first phase of the public consultation, regularly presenting observations and technical proposals, which have already been published on the website www.depositonazionale.it.

Those who intend to send written memoranda and documents to Sogin, to be published on the website www.seminariodepositonazionale.it and taken into account in the work of the National Seminar, under Art. 10 of Law no. 241/1990, are also eligible for the extension. These memoranda and documents may be sent by 30 September 2021 to the PEC address consultazionepubblica@pec.depositonazionale.it, according to the procedures specified on the website www.depositonazionale.it.

The extension of the original deadline is in line with the principles outlined in Law 241/1990 concerning access to administrative acts, the subsequent Legislative Decree 31/2010, and the guidelines for public consultation in Italy contained in Directive no. 2/2017 of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers - Ministry for Simplification and Public Administration. This Directive recommends to promote the greatest possible participation of citizens in public decisions and considers public consultation, also through telematic modalities, an essential phase of decision-making processes to ensure inclusiveness, transparency and effectiveness in the dialogue with stakeholders

These principles are at the basis of Sogin's commitment to arrive at a choice, shared with the local community, of the location for the National Radioactive Waste Repository and Technology Park.

The extension will not affect the timeframe established by law for carrying out the public consultation. For the three sessions already scheduled in September - the national one on 14 September and the territorial ones for Sicily and Sardinia, planned respectively on 15 and 28 September 2021 - the scheduling of further work sessions will be evaluated based on requests for participation and any documentation submitted by the stakeholders by 30 September 2021.

The conclusion of the National Seminar is confirmed on 15 December 2021, with the publication of the overall report of the work that will end on 24 November.
