CLEANDEM project, Sogin hosts the final workshop in Saluggia
26 April 2024
The final event of the CLEANDEM project "Cyber physicaL Equipment for unmAnned Nuclear DEcommissioning Measurements" took place on 17 April at the Eurex plant in Saluggia, with about 70 participants attending, representing different national and international organisations operating in the field of nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management.

Launched in 2021, CLEANDEM is a project co-funded by the European Commission as part of the H2020 programme, involving 11 partners from 4 Member States (Italy, France, Germany, Spain). The project focused on developing a robotic platform (UGV) equipped with innovative radiological measurement sensors for non-destructive characterisation in remote or particularly hostile environments. The system is also able to provide a digital model of the area under investigation, enhanced with the radiological information provided by the sensors, thus allowing for a Digital Twin to be created, which can be used in every phase of a dismantling project.

The event was organised by Sogin (as leader of the Work Package dedicated to "Training and in-situ demo") and took place during a guided tour through 4 different locations located in multiple buildings within the Saluggia site. Participants could attend presentations and road shows of the different technologies developed by the partners involved in the project, and a real demonstration of the robotic system equipped with the characterisation sensors within the controlled area of the Eurex facility. It was also possible to see the results obtained during the mission through the presentation of the investigated area’s Digital Twin.

The event opened with greetings from CEO Gian Luca Artizzu, followed by an introductory presentation of the site by Plant Manager, Maria Angela De Simone. After the plenary session, moderated by Federica Pancotti, Head of New Technologies of the Engineering Department and Sogin contact person for the project, tours of the four planned groups took place, each one led by a Sogin representative.
The day provided time for technical discussions and the sharing of scientific information, highlighting the importance of Sogin's contribution to international cooperation in the nuclear and research fields.
