Yesterday afternoon, the Commander of the Carabinieri for Environmental Protection and Ecological Transition, Generale Valerio Giardina, and the CEO of Sogin, Emanuele Fontani, signed the extended Memorandum of Understanding aimed at collaborazione in the recovery and safety of orphan radioactive sources.

The three-year memorandum, now renewed for the third time, provides for the organisation of mutual training activities on subjects of common interest and expands cooperation between the parties. It does this by developing joint activities for the analysis and processing of risk profiles relating to commercial flows to make the management of nuclear orders more effective and to combat trafficking in radioactive materials and waste.

We are proud of this renewed agreement“ commented Emanuele Fontani, Sogin's CEO, “which broadens the scope of our collaboration with the Carabinieri's Environmental Protection and Ecological Transition Command to strengthen the fight against illegal activities. This is an acknowledgment of the professionalism and seriousness with which we carry out nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management to ensure the safety of citizens and environmental protection every day”.

“We are particularly pleased“ said General Valerio Giardina, Commander of the Carabinieri for Environmental Protection and Ecological Transition, "to renew the agreement with Sogin, a company that has always been committed to environmental protection, in order to combat all forms of illicit activities involving radioactive sources, for the training of personnel and for all information exchanges that will allow our institutions to carry out their mandate in the best possible way".
