Sogin and Nagra: visits to Caorso, Trino and Saluggia completed
18 March 2026
A delegation from
Nagra, the Swiss organization responsible for radioactive waste management and the construction of the deep geological repository, recently concluded its visit to the
Sogin power plants in
Caorso and
Trino, and the Eurex facility in
Saluggia.

In this occasion, Nagra representatives, led by CEO Matthias Braun, discussed with Sogin staff the technical and operational aspects of ongoing activities, particularly the safe and secure management of radioactive waste.

The initiative is part of the collaboration agreement signed between Sogin and Nagra in March 2025, aimed at sharing know-how and experiences related to their respective nuclear programmes.

The agreement, effective since September of last year, included a period of exchange at Sogin's Rome headquarters. This featured in-depth specialist seminars, dedicated to a range of topics; among others, the project developed by Nagra for its radioactive waste disposal solution.
The cooperation programme will continue in the upcoming weeks with a Sogin delegation visiting several Swiss facilities, including the Gösgen nuclear power plant, the Zwilag radioactive waste storage facility, and the Mont Terri underground laboratories, helping to consolidate the already established exchange between the two organizations.
