Artizzu, Sogin CEO: We are making the sites of our power plants available for the return to nuclear

"Dismantling a nuclear power plant firstly means confining what is radioactive in relation to the biosphere and to human activities. Confining means making what is dangerous, namely the radiation, harmless in the sense that it gradually reduces the danger to the environment following a series of interventions". This was stated by the CEO of Sogin, Gian Luca Artizzu, during this morning's event organised by the Lega: "Sustainable nuclear energy: Italy starts again!", in which he illustrated the activities carried out by Sogin.
"For the return to nuclear power, Sogin makes available the sites of the old facilities that we are dismantling, as well as its expertise. We dismantle the facilities – continued Artizzu -
we do not dismantle the sites. These have been designed and maintained as sites to house a nuclear power plant and are the natural destination for a future new plant”.
“The first sin of nuclear power is not letting it operate" – continued Gian Luca Artizzu, taking up the concept expressed at the opening of the event by Edoardo Ventafridda, Founder of Giovani Blu.
"Let's consider the Caorso plant: it has been operational for less than five years and has produced 30 billion kilowatt hours. If we had not stopped it with the referendum at the time, we would currently be discussing extending operations at this plant, as is happening in the world at similar facilities".
The panel discussion, moderated by Fabio Tamburini, Director of Sole 24 Ore, was attended by: Flavio Cattaneo, CEO of Enel Group, Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, and Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia.
Several institutions, political representatives and experts participated in the event opened by Vincenzo Pepe, National Head of the Environment Department of the League together with Armando Siri, National Coordinator of the League and the Deputy Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Vannia Gava. The event was closed by the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini.
