The session devoted to the Lazio Region, seventh of the nine appointments of the National Seminar on the location of the National Repository for Italian radioactive waste, ended today. The Lazio Region is involved with 22 areas potentially suitable to host the facility, identified in the CNAPI (National Charter of Potentially Suitable Areas).

The session, moderated by Iolanda Romano, an expert in participatory processes and public debate, opened on the morning of 9 November with the institutional greetings of Pietro Nocchi, President of the Province of Viterbo, and continued the next day to give space to many stakeholders to intervene with their own contribution.

The two days saw contributions of experts from various sectors who contributed with insights on the various aspects related to the National Repository and Technology Park: Nadia Cipriani, Responsible of the Radioactive Waste Repository Section of ISIN (National Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection), Nadia Cherubini, President of Nucleco, and Francesca Giacobbo, Professor of Migration of Radioactive Materials of the Department of Energy of the Polytechnic of Milan.

Speakers on behalf of Sogin were Andrea Morgante, Senior Seismologist Expert; Elena Bunone, Senior Environmental Expert for the Repository; Michele Rosati, Site Qualification and Applied Geology Manager; Stefania Uras, National Repository and Technology Park Design Manager, and Lorenzo Manni, Senior Geological Expert.

The session was attended by 26 stakeholders, representing various stakeholders in the area, such as authorities, municipalities, trade unions, and associations of various kinds. During the first day, the subjects who did not have the opportunity to carry out their intervention in their own territorial sessions of reference, or who could not benefit from the extension of the deadline for registration, but who joined according to the procedure, intervened.

Fabio Chiaravalli, Director of Sogin's National Repository and Technology Park, concluded the work of both days with a speech analyzing and commenting on the comments received during the public consultation.

As in other working sessions, a moment was dedicated to reply the questions received from the public through the mailbox domande@seminariodepositonazionale.it and proposed live by the moderator.

The next territorial appointment of the National Seminar, before the closing plenary on 24 November, is with the Piemonte Region, scheduled for 15 and 16 November.
